Once I start a show I just click on the icon on the browser and the show appears on my TV. Then I signed in to DIrectv and downloaded their video player. Oh, as far as DIrectv, I haven't tried it since I have had chromebook, but on my windows computer, I first downloaded the chromecast extension and the icon appeared on the browser. On my android phone I have a cast icon listed on my pull down menu with wifi and bluetooth and other icons. The chromecast icon looks like a little rectangle with a couple of curved lines in one corner. It sometimes goofs up and says No Cast devices found but refreshing usually works. Now I have a Chromebook and the icon was there already on the Chrome browser. If you open a google play movie it will also have it's own chromecast icon to click on.
After I downloaded the chromcast extension an icon appeared on my browser that I can click on to cast.
